Two separate controls decide who reads a post: the audience controls who can find and open it, and the access setting controls who can read the full body.
Before you start
- New posts start with the Space audience, visible to members of the Space.
- The Invite only audience requires the private discussion capability on your account.
- Paid access settings require a Pro or Ultimate membership; the editor shows an upgrade prompt otherwise.
Set the post audience
- Open Settings > Content > Discussions and edit your post.
- In the context panel, open the Audience selector.
- Choose one of the three options: Space (visible to members of this space), Public (listed in public discovery and search), or Invite only (only you and people you invite can view and comment).
Invite readers to a private post
- Set the audience to Invite only; an Invitees section appears in the same panel.
- Search people by name and add them as invitees; remove anyone who should no longer have access.
- Invited readers find these posts under their invited discussions list.
Gate the full post behind membership or purchase
- In the post's paid content settings, pick an access option: free, members only with a required membership tier, a one-off purchase with a price, or members-or-buyers combining both.
- For tier-gated posts, select the required membership tier.
- Non-members who open a gated post see a preview with an unlock prompt: an upgrade button naming the required tier, or a buy button with the price for purchase posts.
Expected result
The post is reachable only by its audience (Space members, everyone, or invitees), and gated posts show non-qualifying readers a locked preview with the matching upgrade or purchase action instead of the full body.
Troubleshooting
- If Invite only is missing from the audience options, your account lacks the private discussion capability.
- If the paid access options are locked with an upgrade prompt, gating requires a Pro or Ultimate membership.
- If an invitee cannot open the post, confirm they appear in the invitees list and are signed in with the invited profile.
- If a reader reports seeing only a preview, that is the gate working; they can unlock it from the prompt via membership upgrade or purchase.
